Shawn's Assessment Notes · Scoping

The Scope Is the Assessment

Weak scoping creates downstream uncertainty. CUI flows, external service providers, inherited responsibilities, specialized assets, and security protection assets must be understood before evidence can be evaluated coherently.

What the assessor sees

Build an evidence path that can be followed and defended.

  • Trace CUI from receipt or creation through storage, processing, transmission, and disposal.
  • Identify external services and inherited responsibilities explicitly.
  • Make inventories and diagrams tell the same story.
  • Resolve scope ambiguity before collecting large volumes of evidence.
